History

The ancient Romans wore a lower dress, a tunic and a top dress, a toast. Over time, the dresses became more complex and more luxurious. In cities, fashion changes were more common, while in the villages they carried folk costumes. There were dresses for everyday wear and ceremonial dresses that were more luxurious. In the past, the main materials for making dresses were: linen, hemp, cotton, wool and silk. Until the modern age, almost exclusively long dresses were worn, one to the floor or long to the ankle. Also, until around 1800, women did not wear trousers, but dresses and skirts. In the Baroque period, gowned dresses with crinolines and corsets were worn. More recently, new materials for making dresses, new shapes and dresses have emerged.
